This arguing will last as long as humans, must say, Greece had hi intellectual level thousand thousands years ago, when westerners are still joking in darkness, didn`t even think about art, culture... But Greece is not first and oldest, they are bridge from older ancestors, and as much as we can co in past there will be older ones, cos we don`t even know about civilisations that are disapered long, long before, in time that science and historians today think that nothing existed, Earth life is much older that anyone dream! But,again, for modern civilisation we need to thank to Greece, and from my knowledge, and i lived 6 years in Athens, most of western world still did not achieve that level of eloquence, kindness, conscious and awaken thinking and looking at everithing, after time there Greece become my home, and only when person learn to speak Greek language, fluently, only then that person can understand human relations and attitude of Greek people! Eci,afto ine alitia, ja emena!

And modern ones like A. Meillet who in his book "Dictionnaire étymologique de la langue latine" says: The latin vocabulary is the translation of the respective greek one, or Jacqueline Worms de Romilly perhaps. And of course thousands more, mostly french, german and english linquists. Although, in my opinion, the most important phrase of all was written by Cicero: "Totum Graecorum est" (Pro Placco 9)

That's why in western languages there are more than 50.000 (last time i checked 5 years ago). But you shouldn't trust me! Go and educate yourselves. Go and read Virgil and Cicero. Even better, go and read all the latin intellectuals, like Quintilianus who said: "Aeolica ratione est sermo noster simillibus", Varro, Priscianus, Terentianus Maurus and hundreds more. ...

Apostolis Paliopoulos

Oh god! There's a greek phrase which says: "Half knowledge is worse than no knowledge" And how stupid do you make yourselves seem speaking of and having opinion on something you have little or no knowledge at all! To begin with, look up the latin alphabet. It comes from the euboean alphabet. Yeah that's greek. The word "latin" is a greek word itself. So latin evolved from greek and that's why the mentality is identical in contrast to english. ...
