Band: Cynic

Album: Traced in Air (2008)

Genre: Technical Death Metal, Jazz-fusion

Here's my hand you painted on

A circle fades inside a heart

Are you expected here?

You whisper in my ear

So I wash my hands till the water burns

A circle sits outside a door

Are you expected here?

I whisper in your ear

I'm whole, open

I'm starved, broken

I'm lost and found

I'm an evolutionary sleeper

If letting go means letting be

And the truth beyond the mind is what I need

If letting go means letting be

And the truth beyond the mind is what I see

I'm an evolutionary sleeper

that's what i mean...focus was probably 80% death with some touches of progressive and jazz. i personally think they became just progressive after that. to be honest i always found their pure progressive stuff to be somewhat boring, so i don't really follow their music post-"focus".

I disagree, this is progressive death metal. Probably more progressive than anything.

they played death metal on the "focus" album but since then they have been just progressive/alternative rock

My ex was into Cynic. Makes for good sexy time music.

Agreed...more progressive than anything. I dig it just the same. Saw them on the Focus tour in WV back in early 94'. Blew my mind!

Well if you want to get technical you could say the same about other bands like Obscura, Nile, and Death all being apart of the same genus as if to say one is a chimpanzee and another is a gorilla. They're still related though.

Genosse Skenderi

Yeah, but comparing Cynic with, for example Dying Fetus,is like you would compare a monkey with a human. They´re related, but they´re in other evolutionary area.

Nah man, Cynic is definitely death metal but the way they play is so unique that it is often mistaken for a different genre.
