What a great tune. I remember rocking out to this when I was a kid. I love Cyndi Lauper! I know she is not the original singer but I like her version the best!

It's actually a mix of Creole and Choctaw. John Crawford, who wrote it, tried to write down phonetically what he heard at a Mardi Gras parade. As you can imagine, it was hard to get correct and some of what he wrote was not quite correct. The actual words are: Akout! Akout! An Deye Chockma Finha an dan deye Chockma finha-ane It means: Listen! Listen! At the rear. It is very good. It is a very good year. Catchy song, huh? :)

Destroyer of Worlds

It sounds similar to her live version, and this is certainly not live which would explain the differences. I do think it's Cyndi Lauper

"Iko Iko" is a much-covered New Orleans song that tells of a parade collision between two "tribes" of Mardi Gras Indians and the traditional confrontation. The song, under the original title "Jock-A-Mo", was written in 1953 by James "Sugar Boy" Crawford in New OrleansThe story tells of a "spy boy" (i.e. a lookout for one band of Indians) encountering the "flag boy" or guidon carrier for another "tribe". He threatens to "set the flag on fire".
