Chiming in 2 months late, i prefer trap music over skrillex style dubstep, since trap doesn't use the jarring screeching noises that dubstep uses. Also i personally think rap is being held back by the current trends in the lyrics rather than the beat.

I'm sorry, but i fundamentally disagree with you. No disrespect, but i can't stand trap. In my eyes it is the complete opposite of glitch hop (all the good parts of hip hop, mixed with EDM) or in other words they took the most generic part of rap (the simple beat, which, IMO again, is what holds rap back as a genre in itself) and then layered it over the most popular part of edm (the build ups) only to then deny the track a proper drop. Again, no disrespect, i just cant wrap my head around it.
