christmas (pretty much)
when i was just lad, on christmas eve i asked my dad. what christmas means to us, is it about peace, love and trust?
my dad explained about an old grey man visits your house. deep in the dead of night to bring you toys if you're polite.
ok let me figure this out.
so santa clause on christmas eve. rides our chimney down to see. who's been naughty, who's been nice and leaves us boxes if we're nice. drinks our milk while we sleep tight.
dad is that what christmas means to us? he said what? sure kid, pretty much.
i was confused by this cause after all i was a kid
for sense it didn't make a lick so i asked uncle rick
he told me jesus christ. who lives above the sky.
it's his birthday party, where is he i said, oh well he died
ok let me figure this out
so santa clause and jesus christ, work together on this tonight. making little toys for boys and girls who do good and do right. and jesus died but he still rides our chimney down to get inside and raid our fridge for sweet delights and drink our milk then off he flies and san ta flies along beside
well is that what christmas means to us? he said what? sure kid, pretty much?
something just wasn't right, so i asked my cousin dwight
he went to college, took philosophy and poli sci.
he said you don't know kid? he said it's all bullshit. said pagan, winter solstice, hallmark = big business
ok let me figure this out
so santa clause and jesus christ and pagan who's this other guy
make toys together from bull shit and give them to the christian kids
and
hallmark hires them on for this and jesus died but he came back and pagan has some beef with that
but still the three of them together. ride the chimney bringing sweaters and hallmark makes
a buck per gift and dwight was fired up bout this. they drink our milk and raid our fridge and jesus empties
cookie jars while pagan eats granola bars.
well is this what christmas means to us? he said what? ya kid pretty much
i was wrong about what christmas meant to us, it's not about peace love and trust.
it's about a mess of complicated things that kids can't grasp and only grown ups understand
i was pleased to finally see what christmas meant to us. so i could tell my kids when grew up.
