How could that building have been built with so many windows or glass panes, in an Earthquake zone?

For example, imagine singing all verses to Immanuel's Land! Check it out if you don't know that beautiful hymn. Some of the verses are rather secular. Perhaps the poem should be distinguished from the hymn which obviously leaves out the secular verses.

Skip verses? Some hymn may have 30 verses!!! If you go to a quaint British church where they use words-only hymnals, you will likely find many more verses. Our music hymn books have limited room for verses.

I am used to singing this hymn in Elizabethan English (Thou hast died, etc.). But since they stopped reading the KJV in school and methinks only a minority go to a church that uses KJV language (minority even goes to ch); only a small group of young persons understands KJV language. A lot of hymns have been butchered also by persons who thot they were correcting bad theology or thinking it needed a focus on Christ instead of us. Methinks most of the changes are ignorant.

I agree with CrazyCello. Very bland version.

The words of this hymn were written by a Catholic. :)

LOL yeah from what I've seen, every soprano in that choir seems to be a "soloist". :) I've watched several videos trying to spot the "Queen of the High C''s" Anyone know who she is? Cause in MY church choir back home, it was ME, and I was a 17 year old BOY:). I was the youngest member of the adult chancel choir and the ONLY person male or female that could hit those notes:). LOL Now I"m a low baratone. Funny how 10 years can change a person, huh? At any rate, overall good job, boys and girls!:)

Denominations refer to protestant churches - which are "named" or denominated. Catholics belong to The Church, generally in the Western Tradition. There are three main churches which are apostolic and catholic: Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Anglican. Protestantism is set apart from these, being schismatic and not a direct continuation of the early church, they are not episcopal or apostolic and they hold different (and varied) theology and are distinguished between by denomination.

Then what exactly would you refer to them as? There are many denominations of christianity!

Except Catholics are not a denomination.

Yes, catholics sing this hymn. Each hymn may have a certain variation in the text with use of the, thee, or thus, etc.. in their denomination or depending where the biblical verse is, but they sing the same tune to 98% of the same lyrics. Most denominations that use hymnals will have the same hymn tune, except a small variant in the text. However, they have the same meaning.

Yeah it is owned by the Catholic diocese now, but this video is from the time it was a reformed church. I ain't heard of Catholics singing this hymn at all!

Apparently the Diocese of Orange County purchased the building from the Schullers after they went bankrupt. At least that's what I was told...
