On March 10, 1968, Cream recorded a live version of "Crossroads" during a performance at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. It's my personal favorite performance of the song by any act.

I went down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees

Down to the crossroads, fell down on my knees

Asked the Lord above for mercy, "Save me if you please"

I went down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride

Down to the crossroads, tried to flag a ride

Nobody seemed to know me, everybody passed my eye

Well I'm going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side

Going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side

You can still barrel house, baby, on the riverside

Going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side

Going down to Rosedale, take my rider by my side

You can still barrel house, baby on the riverside

"You can run, you can run", tell my friend boy, Willie Brown

"Run, you can run", tell my friend boy Willie Brown

And I'm standing at the crossroads, believe I'm sinking down.

This remains the single greatest live guitar solo ever recorded... or solos, I should say.And here we witness easily the greatest rhythm section the universe ever put on a stage.47 years later... no band has ever been able to touch Cream. But sadly, just as the Stones died when Brian Jones died... Eric Clapton died when Cream broke up.

Loved John Mayall and the Yardbyrds I bought the Fresh Cream album in winter of 67. Could not believe how good these guys were. Read the jackets and wanted to know who Johnson Dixon and Morganfield were. So it goes.

The idea that this just 'happened' one night is just unreal! Let's be honest. There are loads of other 'unofficial' live versions of Crossroads but none come close! Bruce is stupefying!

I remember as a young bass player in .68 trying to play the incredibly difficult bass riff from Crossroads.I was soaked with sweat after this number. It gave me an appreciation for the powerful talent of Jack Bruce,Ginger Baker and Eric Clapton. What a super talented band!Wow.
