wow and just awesome,,rain king has been mashed ( hope that is the right description ) maybe 12 times...and as crows fans we tend to pick our favorites...i really like their two live versions on their cd live from the 10 spot,,then storytellers...storytellers is a more slower acoustic version,,and live at 10 spot is a total rocking version...but this is my favorite,,no doubt...counting crows are always pushing the envelop,,sometimes pissing their fans off,,because the crows will not play two concerts the same...adam says he has no favorite songs,,thus he will choose a set list every concert night of all 7 albums the crows put out...some fans want a greatest hit concert...and when they don't hear mr. jones or omaha or maybe accidently in love...they get mad...i personally love the way adam goes about the set lists...my take on the crows is if adam does a song and he mashes it...either acoustic or reguglar,,that means that song is special to him...

Wow. Words can't describe how awesome this is. I agree with holychild2006: 8 minutes of pure joy. The two songs go together perfectly -- they come from the same feeling place deep down in the soul. And it's a place only rock and roll can speak to in a certain way. Bravo, Adam, bravo, bravo.

This hurt me in the soul. Two favorite songs utterly mangled by one of the original artists. Tell me that was a nightmare. :)

@ElGoodo I like it as well, but I like the original too. More than anyone else, I think Counting Crows are genuine musicians (which is why they've lasted so long). Very rarely to they tweak a song where I dislike EITHER version. It's just nice to fall in love with a song all over again. (It's sort of like a solid cover version, but it's the same band, so it's even better, if not equal, to the original.)

Love this version of Rain King, think the one of the iTunes live at Soho might be a little better (at least the Thunder Road part). People complain this version is too slow and depressing compared to the original but I love it, this version has so much more depth musically.
