I saw them both live in this role. I prefer Donna Murphy, but that's just my two cents worth. They are both wonderful. It's a Ford-Chevy question as to who is "better". They are both amazing.

I think Donna starts of cold and ends angry. Jan has been losing her composure slowly through the show, still has a little here, but starts out angry and ends in white hot fury. Donna is one of my favorite Broadway actresses, even moreso than Jan, but I like the latter more. Its 30 years of repressed rage coming to fruition.

Well, I think this version starts off too high, so where is there for her to go? You have to build or the ending has no punch. Donna Murphy does it better.

Jan Maxwell's performance is like a master class as to how this role should be performed. Dryly hilarious, moving, vicious, and profoundly truthful. It's such an explosion of emotion.

Amazing! thank you - Ms. Maxwell played her role superbly - as did Mr. Raines - Ben has long been a thankless role and Ron's depiction as Ben was truly conflicted. Glorious!
