If Portland had a Mayor's Award for Excellence in Hip Hop like they do in Seattle, that honor, hands down, would go to Terrance Scott, AKA Cool Nutz. The rapper started Jus Family Records 11 years ago, and since then has released a discography that stands up to the other big Northwest vets--10 new albums in the past decade, four of which were his solo records. Nutz has also done a lot of behind-the-scenes work that often gets overlooked. He had a TV show called The Ledge on Portland's local cable channel, and hosts a radio show on KBOO called The Family Hours. He's also helped organize hiphop festivals that brought out the best in regional and national talent, like Music-festNW and POH-Hop.

Nutz started POH-Hop with his friends David Parks and Steven Spirit in 1995 in an effort to bring the Portland hiphop scene together, and since then has showcased several upcoming artists and bigger names like Andre Nickatina, Ras Kass, the Luniz, and Mac Dre. The festival is more than just entertainment, though, financially giving back to community groups like KBOO and the Black Education Center.

Jus Family Records was founded in 1992 by Bosco Kante and Terrance Scott, and has been instrumental in the growth of Northwest Hip-Hop. Jus Family is perhaps the regions most well-known and successful urban music entity. Jus Family has released 16 monumetal independent releases of the some of the regions most prolific urban music. With releases from Cool Nutz, Bosko, Maniac Lok, G-Ism, Kenny Mack, Izaya, Bullet, D.B.A, and The Western Conference All-Starz, Jus Family Records has established itself as one of the regions standout crews.

The label was started after Bosco and Terrance decided that it was time to get serious about their music careers. From working long hard nights in the grocery store to hitting late night licks, Bosco and Terrance were determined to see the label succeed. After much hard work and saving of funds, they finally had rustled up enough capitol to put out their first release "Dis Niggaz Nutz". From this point there was no stopping the Jus Family Militia. After "Dis Niggaz Nutz" cam many more historic releases that made the public recognize Jus Family Records as a Northwest music industry powerhouse.

As time has passed, Jus Family artists have had the opportunity to work with such industry heavyweights as E-40, BG, Kurupt, Yukmouth, C-Bo, WC, Sticky Fingaz, Too Short, Jay Felony, Mac Dre, Spice 1, B-Legit, The Outlawz, Kanye West, Limp Bizkit, Tyrese, and many more.

Bohemia Afterdark launched on TVs in 1982 and operated in Phoenix, AZ, but early history is unknown until 1990 when they moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1992 they began airing on KPDX Portland and then they move to KWBP in 1994. In 1995 they began airing on 22 Network One affiliates. In 1997 Network One shut down and the service moved to KOIN and in 2001, the service moved back to Phoenix, airing on KASW, then in 2002, moved to KPHO-TV. In 2003 they got their own station, KPHE-LP, at the time broadcasting on channel 19 in Mesa, Arizona, and changed their name to Bohemia Visual Music. KPHE moved to channel 44 in Phoenix in 2005.[2] Bohemia Visual Music changed their name to 24-7 Videos for a few months from mid-2005 to early-2006, then reverted to Bohemia Visual Music.
