I would prefer not to compare artists to each other. Oberst and Dylan are both good at what they do, just very different - and isn't that enough? I think Oberst is talented, maybe not in a world-changing way, but one doesn't have to be. He makes good music that represents very fine feelings, people like listening to him, and that means he's caught the point of making music, which's not about being the best.

My guess is they're just trolling. Logically, it makes no sense to say it sounds like a seven-year old wrote this; seven-year olds' brains haven't developed well enough to understand most of the concepts this song addresses. Lyrics don't have to be very well thought-out or extremely poetic. Conor's music has a lot of emotion, sometimes simple words mean the most.
