Last thing I heard, Jon used Matamp heads. They're a small company based out of England that make amps that seem to be basically Orange amps on steroids. Ie. perfect for this stuff. I saw Conan live a few months ago, and there was at least one Matamp head on stage. Needless to say, the show was the most absurd I've ever seen; even when the PA got overloaded (as it did three times during that show) they were still the most Earth-shatteringly heavy band imaginable.

Proco Rat would be the one. I use one myself - but rarely in all honesty due to the fact that it is VERY sensitive and one tiny turn of a knob can send it in a completely new direction from what you wanted.

Jon has a tonne of amps and cabs. He uses some vintage Sunn, a Matamp, Orange and generally uses all of them at the same time. Same goes for bass. Layers of different amps all cooking at high volumes. So you're absolutely right mr Hofmann

Just started to get into Doom Metal. I can fully understand why fans smoke a J and then listen to this... I dont smoke, but the way its composed just makes you feel strange, in a good way. I love the texture/ layering of the guitars. So heavy... Bass drum is nice a thick too. Anybody know what type of amps these guys use?
