Communique - Perfect Weapon

Lyrics:

Into the cold

Into the pouring rain

Never to be seen again

Were bruised and broken

I dont care

Cause the tears that smear your makeup

Make you beautiful

To cupids poison arrows

Our bodies keep sweating

Weve got the perfect weapon

Our bodies keep sweating

Weve got the perfect weapon

Weve got the perfect weapon

I shiver and shake like a rattle

More high strung than a gallows

And if I wake up tomorrow

Theres no stopping me

Because theres a cure and its more

And these cold sweats simply salt the earth

In a doctrinaires dogmatic

Pitch black past

Our bodies keep sweating

Weve got the perfect weapon

Our bodies keep sweating

Weve got the perfect weapon

Weve got the perfect weapon

Oh but its not all just

Snake oil and smoke and mirrors

Cause Ive Stalind your face

From the photographs

Our bodies keep sweating

Weve got the perfect weapon

In the mid-2000s, (just as today) there was no shortage of trendy rock acts bringing back a retro style. Back then, alternative radio sounded very much like an Eighties station, thanks to groups like the Killers, the Bravery, Interpol, Black Tie Dynasty, and *Communique*. Communique formed from the ashes of a grungier coalition of California music makers. Originally calling themselves American Steel, the band would later settle on a name change that was more reflective of their evolving sound. American Steel added keyboards to their compositions, and redubbed themselves Communique, a more Euro-sounding name for their new-wavier sound.I was a senior in high school when I began to respond to Communique's *message*. At a particularly pathetic period in my life, I found that there was nothing more PRECIOUSLY pathetic than this band: They were independent rockers with a throwback sound; their video for "perfect weapon" looked like it was shot in a strip club, in a vacuum, in Hell. "Perfect weapon" never got recognition from a mainstream audience--because it was never given the chance.Unlike many other grossly-talented-yet-underappreciated musicians making *underground* music you've scarcely heard of, Communique actually did manage to get some airtime, on television and on radio, to share their songs with the world outside the Bay Area--but just barely. Sunday night was *their* night--at least, ten years ago. MTV's Subterranean tossed in the music video for "perfect weapon," among other music videos that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day, in its weekend twilight broadcast. Here in Texas, DJ Josh Venable gave Communique their fair shake by featuring them on his Sunday evening radio special, called the Adventure Club.Relegated to a finite block of time only one night a week, Communique failed to make the breakthrough that Franz Ferdinand and the Scissor Sisters did. With all the bands emerging on the alt. rock scene at one time to revive retro, one was bound to lose out. A year after the release of their first full-length album Poison Arrows, Communique parted ways with the keyboardist that not only changed their sound but inspired their metamorphosis from punk to post-punk. The group was able to pick up the pieces and hire a new keyboardist. They, then, put out one more album shortly thereafter. But that's all she wrote.Communique appealed to me in high school because their song "perfect weapon" evoked sounds from my favorite era in music history, the decade in which New Romanticism--and yours truly--was made. The band is on my 28-year-old mind nowadays, because, like me, they still have not yet risen to the potential that they exhibited earlier on--and they've had a *decade* to do it! I seem to have peaked in high school, which isn't saying a lot. Communique peaked with their release of Poison Arrows, but *that* says plenty. It says they have just as much promise as the Killers--but MUCH MORE indie cred for never realizing it.My Krampus Christmas offering: From 2004, the stark debauchery of Communique's video for "perfect weapon."(You're welcome.)

@NotAllCatsAreNice Ok well I just found mine and somehow got it working with file transfer and found another one Liars Inc by Freakhouse, If It's Wrong by Friends of Lizzy, Learning the Hard Way by Gin Blossoms. That's all that was left on it. But I had that Dell at the same time so could be from that too.
