The black patch war was a rebellion of dark tobacco farmers in western kentucky in the early 1900's against large trusts like Duke tobacco and their supporters. The name comes from the type of dark tobacco that is still grown there and from the fact that a patch is any plot of land where tobacco is grown. As a native of this region, I find it fascinating that someone took this story and made a hip hop song out of it.
