Would you look at that? It's Thursday, April 24th! This month is almost over. Let's get started with some tasty Maxwell House dark Roast Coffee and the AM1070 5:20 oldie. On this date in 1963, 18-year-old Brenda Lee marries19-year-old Ronnie Shacklett, in Nashville a mere six months after meeting him at a Jackie Wilson concert. 46 years later, the two are still together. Happy anniversary to Brenda and Ronnie. In this business, marriages have a habit of not lasting very long. She was the top-charting female vocalist of the 1960s. She sang rockabilly, pop and country music, and had 47 US chart hits during the 1960s, and is ranked 4th in that decade surpassed only by Elvis Presley, The Beatles and Ray Charles. She is best known for her 1960 hit "I'm Sorry", and 1958's "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", a US holiday standard for more than 50 years. Lee's popularity faded in the late 1960s as her voice matured, but she continued a successful recording career by returning to her roots as a country singer with a string of hits through the 1970s and 1980s. She is a member of the Rock and Roll, Country Music and Rockabilly Halls of Fame. She is also a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Brenda currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Let's go back to 1966 for one of my favorite Brenda Lee's songs, "Comin' On Strong."

This gem from 1966 you can listen to over and over and never get tired of hearing it!!! The only thing that might have surpassed Brenda's voice was hear hypnotic beauty...God gave out a double dose of blessings when He created this lovely lady!!Thank you for posting this song as well as video. A++++ job!!

Is there a better song of the 1960s, in that weird country-rock range, so at home with all the other wildness? Within its shortness Brenda just builds and builds, and sends you into her very own universe. Trust me, I've played the record for friends, who started bored and just got more and more involved, then had to hear it again and again. This song is hypnotic.
