I want to take this opportunity to bare my testimony that I do know without a shadow of a doubt that Joseph Smith really did see the Father and The Son and that they did in reality speak to him, I absolutely know that because of him the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is restored so to the priesthood is once again on the earth. I say this in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Why did they make the trip? To flee persecution for practicing polygamy?

I had pioneer trek this past summer, because of that experience I will love this song forever. Thank you MoTab for such a powerful message in your songs and voices. Keep singing with a prayer in your heart.

How can anyone dislike such a uplifting and spirit-inviting song?

My great great great grandmother died on the Mormon Trail in Nebraska. She was buried in a shallow unmarked grave (3:10 cuts very close to the heart!) near a lone oak tree near the trail under which she passed away because the ground was frozen and many others of her company were very weak themselves and needed to move forward. She left behind a grieving husband and three surviving children (one child had passed away earlier) to finish the trek and eventually settle in Ogden. "And should we die before our journey's through, happy day, all is well! We then are free from toil and sorrow too; with the just we shall dwell." I look forward to meeting this amazing woman one day and telling her how much I love and appreciate her for her faith, sacrifice and incredible example to all of her descendants.

It is a well known fact that Joseph Smith was a con artist, but I cannot call those pioneers suckers. They had the right stuff.

This is my favorite hymn of all time (part of that may be because of Trek). May we never forget the pioneers and what they did.

Those pioneers and the prophet suffered so much and gave their lives, because they knew how true the gospel is

When I feel troubled by the tempests of this life, listening to this hymn so beautifully arranged comforts me. I know I feel the Spirit comforting me as I listen to this song.
