While this remix is an EDM delight, there’s a touch of magic lost which was expressed in the original version of ASFOS. Hardwell provides blasts of electro-synth production and accentuates the build up for this more but by doing this takes away that next level that Coldplay are so loved for (i.e chord progression change, short dabbling chimes and the Jonny Buckland guitar riff outro as a concluding cool down to the song, not to mention other instruments introduced along the way throughout) Hardwell seems to focus solely on his own sounds and uses Chris Martin’s vocals to support this without capturing the full essence of the song let alone the entire Ghost Stories album. In saying that, Coldplay have made this their official remix released for this song - and who’s to say they won’t play it live like they did the Paradise Tiesto Remix on AHFOD tour or Viva la Vida Thin White Duke Remix on Viva tour. To me, it comes across as Chris Martin expanding his love for EDM with his music and Hardwell earning a better name for himself.
