Circa 2003: I bought this album on a cassette, in New Delhi, and it would play on loop on those boozed out, bitterly cold winter nights spent with friends and strangers in a modest room on a terrace I called home (CDs, for us, were still a posh possession to have in those days). There was the awkward off-chance of love, but that wasn't meant to be. Circa 2009: I would repeat the song, whenever it came on, on my iPod while traveling in a Mumbai local. Especially if it was a grey, gloomy monsoon day. Awkward chances of love still lingered, but the years that had passed had brought me closer to the song, its meaning even more pertinent as life threw 'experience' at me.2018: It is Goa now, monsoon rains have just started to display their glorious fury, at times verging on monotony (but that's how monsoon is on the western coast of India). I search for A Rush of Blood Through the Head here on one such rainy evening, and lo! It's all flashback to those years. Awkward chances of love now no longer present themselves, or have I become so immune that they don't register?In all of this, this is the Coldplay I'd grown to love, to think they'd sing my thoughts. In all of this, I miss the bittersweetness we had started with, because what is life, and what is love, if not bittersweet?

The best thing they ever recorded. Genuinely emotional and genuinely epic. The way the guitar Slides up at key points in the chorus is extraordinarily effective. I find this song to be addicting. Whenever I think to play it, I end up hitting repeat about 10 times.
