Yeesh. There are some really worthless comments on this particular video forum. Cheap Trick did justice to this cover of Lennon's classic. Brilliant rendition.

Robin Zander kicked a nasty heroine habit. HIs voice sucked for a while but now he's better than ever. He is a muthaf'in survivor with unreal vocal chops. Horse is Horse, Robin can sing and MEAN every damn word of this song. Check out Sleep Forever and bow down.

But John knowing the pain isn't what made it a great song. Its a great song because he was a great songwriter who knew how to put that experience into a song. If you don't like it, fine, but this idea that the song is only valid because of John's pain is absurd.

I know that Lennon didn't grow up upper middle class. But it wouldn't matter if he did. Writers can write about things in the human condition that are outside of their own experience, and great interpreters can convincingly perform material that they haven't lived as well. Its art, not just autobiography. Cheap Trick can perform "Cold Turkey" without having suffered through heroin withdrawal, because "Cold Turkey" is a song, not just autobiography. Fine if you don't like it, but its valid.

Wrong. You're changing the subject. We're talking about Cold Turkey, not " other songs". And Lennon didn't grow up " upper middle class". Listen to " Mother ".

Actually, his post makes a lot of sense: if a signer has to literally experience everything they sing about, then Lennon could have never sung rock and roll songs ( like those of Carl Perkins) that came out of the American South. Luckily, that's not true. Singers interpret songs.

They may of not gone through Lennon's experience, but then again it is a cover. I personally think it's better than the original. (Not that the original is bad.)

Ignorant little fool, you don'y know what you're talking about ! You're the one that's stupid. What does Carl Perkins have to do with any of this ? Did he write Cold Turkey ? No. Lennon did. And Lennon was talking about his pain with herion. "kevincooldddy" ? Sounds like a 12 year old. Your post makes no sense. Don't bother with a reply, there's already enough clutter on here.

They're just mouthing the words of a Lennon song. John was telling us about something he had actually gone through. Did these guys suffer from the use of herion ? No. John knew the pain.

FAIL. This song must be sung with FEELING as John sang it. This doesn't come close.
