Balance on Russell and the meaning of this song: "He [Russell] wrote under the name A.E. which was short for AEON. He has written some of the most inspiring and inspired prose about direct enchantment and transcendental communion with Nature. I mention him in the COIL song Bee-stings when I sing "Don't believe A.E. See for yourselves the summer fields" - A plea for experiential outings, pilgrimages etc.Get out there - Travel! It's in both the journey and the destination..."A great song, and especially so with the Solstice coming on Saturday. I for one am definitely going to get out there this weekend and see for myself the summer fields.

i could be wrong, but i think there was something i read somewhere, someone asked james joyce if he could sum up george william russell in 5 words, he replied he could do it in 5 letters: A.E.I.O.U (AE i owe you)!! james joyce wasn't too kind to AE in some things he wrote, but then james joyce had a big chip on his shoulder for other irish writers, i know AE criticized some of his work!

geoff/ johnn was inspired by AE's works!! he namechecks him in this track, and the track 'the avatars' from astral disaster is a homage to him (he wrote a book titled the avatars)!! also, coming to the end of geoff's life, he started to take on the appearance of AE, with the long beard, round rimmed glasses and swept over hair!! thanks to COIL, i've connected with someone spiritually important from my own country, who otherwise i would never have heard of!!

i don't know why, but for as long as i've known this track (and before i knew of AE), i always envisioned summer at the mall in armagh, northern ireland (a beautiful lawn surrounded by trees and georgian buildings)!! strange thing is, armagh county museum is located at the mall....... and contains ireland's largest collection of AE's work and personal items!!
