I would highly recommend you listening to their interview on Q (CBC) with Jian Ghomeshi. This was a conscious effort to move to something that challenged them, and they challenged that fans should see that this album is more Tegan and Sara than anything else, because of the FEELING behind it, not the style of the music. They also wanted to see if they could challenge the "vapid pop music" of our time, by putting making music that has some substance and emotion.
