The Scene: Somewhere in the heights of the Pennines, Northern England. A windy day in June 2007.

The Action: One of the lighter moments of the Climax Jazz Band's tour of Scotland and Northern England. They have stopped in their bandwagon to admire the beautiful view (drummer Mike McCombe is absent, as he was driving separately)

Bandleader/bassist Chris Daniels says "Let's play a tune for the sheep"

Jamie Macpherson; Brian Towers; Dave Kosmyna and Jim Buchmann (standing from left to right) are happy to oblige, as a lively breeze whistles around their ears. No CD sales were made at this impromptu session, though a couple of cars did stop to join the sheep. Thanks to Joy Macpherson for shooting the video!

Just playing for the fun of it, for the love of it, and it shows!! So relaxed, but it is hot jazz. Very very good. Beautiful countryside, too, nice people live here.

This is when the joy of jazz solidifies the lifelong friendships and for some, memories of those that have passed on. This is why I do it. What a literal windfall to see this spontaneous moment in a country where this idiom is appreciated. Keep blowin boys!!! Thanks for the unusual post! Randy Keller
