Charted at #5 in 1933. From the revue, "As Thousands Cheer". Webb and Marilyn Miller sang it in the Broadway revue. Peformed by Bing Crosby in the 1942 movie, "Holiday Inn". Performed by Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in the 1948 movie, "Easter Parade". Much of the melody of this song was earlier used by Berlin in the 1917 song, "Smile and Show Your Dimple" which I have also posted.

A #11 hit for Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians in 1939, #16 for Harry James and His Orchestra in April 1942 and #7 for Freddie Mitchell and His Orchestra on the R&B chart in 1950.

Written by Irving Berlin.

B-side is "How's Chances?".

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER for APRIL 15 - Yesterday we featured the 1950 novelty “Peter Cottontail,” so today let’s hear a (seriously vintage) recording of the most popular Easter holiday tune of them all, Irving Berlin’s “EASTER PARADE.” Having met with only mild success in 1917 when he had first tried out the melody using the different lyric and title “Smile And Show Your Dimple,” Berlin recycled the tune for his 1933 musical “As Thousands Cheer,” but this time as “Easter Parade.” And who was it who sang that tune on stage...and also recorded it (below) with the popular Leo Reisman band? None other than future motion picture star Clifton Webb. Clifton Webb with Leo Reisman and His Orchestra - Easter Parade (1933)

I've seen posts about Zanuck not caring for his "effiminate" mannerisms, but this is not true. Zanuck was "a man's man" and a great chum of Webb's..Zanuck and his wife were dear friends of Webb..and their Palm Springs home was Webb's second home until he died.

Thanks for posting this -- the introduction of the song by Webb on B'Way. Would have loved to have seen Webb in "Band Wagon" in 1953 -- he declined and recommended Jack Buchanan (England's Fred Astaire) for the role. I'm reading "Sitting Pretty - The LIfe and Times of Clifton Webb" Mr. Webb will always be best remembered as Waldo Lydecker in the classic film noir "Laura" (his first role in a talking film) and as Lynn Belvedere from the "Mr. Belvedere" comedies. He was one of a kind.

Webb was a great dancer too. He was to dance with Astaire in "The Band Wagon" but turned part down to take role of John Philip Souza in "Stars and Stripes Forever" 1950. Gay, but no record of it with any of his lovers if he had any. When is mother died in her 90s he followed shortly in 1966.

Delightful. I hadn't known that the great Clifton Webb was also a singer. I wish more of his films were available on DVD. Thanks for this. !

@superchartC Yes, you can blame Darryl F. Zanuck for that. Webb had been singing and dancing in Broadway musicals for years, but when Zanuck saw him, he felt he was too "effeminate" for any roles he had in mind. So he cast him as an effete snob in his pictures. Hollywood never recognizes true talent.

Yowzers! Thanks so very much for uploading an example of the late great Clifton Webb's fine singing voice. Though today he's known mostly for his many Fox movie roles, he was a huge Broadway star in the 20's & 30's (achieving acclaim as an actor, dancer & singer). You've MADE my day & week! CHEERS, mate! :-)
