Hi Clifton, yet another excellent version. You really are an extremely gifted and inspirational fellow. You must bring joy everywhere you take your banjo. Do you have any plans to come to the UK? I have been meaning to ask for quite a while - are you in any way related to the late Mr Stanley Hicks - or is it just a case of the same surname (if that's what they call your family name in the US)? Keep up the playing - with kind regards Will

I have been a professional musician for 50 years; have been the featured soloist with a professional symphony orchestra; with a United States Military Band; and, at the White House in Washington, DC; yet, this guy, Clifton Hicks, is the musician I like to listen to best. He is amazingly and electrifyingly expressive, Clifton makes that banjo tell an interesting, holds-you-spellbound story every time he plays. It is that wonderful artistry of Clifton's that is the purest essence of insightful, performance mastery. I am awestruck every time I listen to him; just like everybody else.

Hey man, you're not planning on performing in PA anytime soon are you? In my eyes, you are the best old-time banjerer out there, and I'd love to see you in person. I've got my pickin' hand in a cast for the next few months, and seeing you plunk might just tide me over until I can play again.

"Up-picking" combined with "thumb-lead" is what you're seeing here. Check out Virgil Anderson, George Gibson (featured on this channel), Creed Birchfield, Matt Kinman (also on this channel) and a few others for examples of up-picking.

Nice. (I like how you let the banjo finish your line @ 2:10.) gCGCD?

Great stuff, as usual. I have to ask: in addition to the frailing later in the song, what is the picking style. It seems different to Scruggs style?

Once again you smashed it out the park. Have you done any lessons on here?
