I started listening to Cajun and then to Zydeco music in the early 1970's and Clifton was Zydeco music. His accordion style is unmatched to this day. I remember seeing the Les Blank documentary about Clifton in the mid 1970's and if you can find it, buy it and watch it. This music is something great that America has given to the world. Merci, Clifton!

there may be a recording of "Back to Big Houston". I heard one years ago by a very ethnic Cajun band. I have forgotten the name. I heard "Pretty Texas Girls" from a guitar player named Jay Dugas back in the 60's. Jay had learned it from his grandfather (Cajun roots) who had been playing it for many years. As far as I know, both of these songs existed in the oral tradition and were passed by word of mouth, perhaps never have been recorded in their earlier forms. Not much help I'm afraid.

paul simon NEVER told me anything about zydeco or Clifton Chenier. the Ragin' Cajun blew my mind 50 years ago, and I was hooked. better than any drug you could ingest. safer too.
