He had more world-wide hit singles (158) than the Rolling Stones (90) and the Beatles (63) combined. His 63 "core catalogue" albums is more than the Beatles (13) and the Rolling Stones (47). This is the top of the all-time singles chart for the UK: 1. The Beatles 21,900,000 2. Elvis Presley 21,600,000 3. Cliff Richard 21,500,000 60. The Shadows Cliff and his backing band combined are easily No.1, and he is still going. I am afraid you have a lot of catching up to get through. ;-)

The Bass player in this clip was Brian (Licorice) Locking. He was the bass player from Apr. of 62 to Oct. of 63 when he left The Shadows to devote more time to his religion, Before Licorice, it was Jet Harris on bass. Jett had some personal problems and also some conflicts within the group so he left The Shadows in 62. He had some considerable success thereafter with The Shadows ex drummer Tony Meehan. After Licorice left the group in 63 he was replace with John Rostill who died in 73.

What was the deal with the Shadows' bass player? It seems Hank, Bruce and Brian were consistently there but who played bass and what happened to him?.

I have followed Sir Cliff's career since 1962 when I was 14. I have seen all of his big movies. I have practically all his songs. He is a great singer. It's too bad he never made it big in USA. Tom Jones had a handful of hits here and became a huge star. Cliff has had over 100 hits around the world and still relatively unknown in USA. BTW, he was born Harry Webb in Lucknow, India where I was born. Go Sir Cliff.

I actually hadn't heard of them until I started watching The Thunderbirds Are Go! tonight (Netflix - 1966) - they we featured in a dream sequence. Correct me if I'm wromg, but wasn't this a Buddy Holly tune?

Do you want to dance? How could you not dance to these guys? Here on stage is one of the best bands of all time....instrumentally, vocally, so pure, clean and effortless and full of passion at the same time....
