I think that Placido Domingo would be laughing his head off if he watched any of the Placido Flamingo clips on Sesame Street.

Placido Domingo vs Placido Flamingo: Placido Domingo is an actual real live tenor while Placido Flamingo is a puppet that impersonated him (Domingo).

I once had a dream that I thanked the icecream stick Ernie for such a good song. Silly I know. Sillier yet was telling my wife about it. She still kids me years later. :) Henson was at the top of his game controlling Ernie and singing in charactor. Sesame Street at its best.

R.I.P. Jim Henson (1936-1990) (Ernie) Richard Hunt (1951-1992) (Placido Flamingo) and Jerry Nelson (1934-2012) (The Announcer). Three great men who made my childhood memorable.

@BuddyBoy600 He sometimes doesn't say anything after the performance. Remember, he didn't at the end of the Concerto for Flute and Pool Toy either.

This is the second video I've seen that has a comment where someone was freaked out by the size of charachters very small or very large. I don't get it.

Was Ernie played by Jim Henson or Steve Whitmire in this video. Who plays Placido?

All right, I guess, this tune was specially written for Sesame Street. In the german synchronisation the tune sounds different, if it would be a real classical sound, they would use the same one. I remember, in Germany, they did ending the scene after the cerain is going down with the words: Ernie: Will it going up again? Placido: No, but we are going down.

Ernie & Placido Flamingo certainly did a great job of singing and performing The Up and Down Opera, don't you think?

Ernie is obviously a dramatic baritone, and should stop singing in this lyric baritone fach. His timbre reminds me of a young Leo Nucci, but without the legato. Flamingo is simply perfect. Wonderful techique, amazing breath support. However, not as good as the Caruso recording of this duet from 1957 with TIto Gobbi.
