Brian Rust's 1978 Jazz Records says Charlie Green on trombone and probably Porter Grainger on piano. Clara recorded over 90 sides for the Columbia label between 1923 and 1932.This puts her on the same label at the same time as Bessie Smith.She often gets overlooked for that reason. She is a fine singer and does a great job on this tune. She usually recorded in NY often with members of Fletcher Henderson's band which included Green. "Georgia Tom" Thomas A. Dorsey both as a blues and later gospel musician mostly worked in Chicago. Based on silent movie stars like Theda Bara, vamp was a 1920s term for a bad girl. "Vampin'" fits the lyrics for the time.
