Yeah, you have to be careful which dialect and what areas the books cover. The music and some of the words may be similar, but they are also quite different. A lot of people think Portuguese and Spanish go hand in hand, but they don't.

I wanted to learn Gaelic too! I ordered a Gaelic dictionary to help me translate my favorite Clannad tracks. It took forever to arrive. I spent hours with it and when I had translated one song, the lyrics made no sense! And the book was missing many words! Then I flipped to the begining and there was a warning that Gaelic has over 60 dialects and that this particular book was for Scottish Gaelic!! What a waste! From then on, I just said forget it.

@Sportymike LOL, I picked up a book with tapes called Irish on Your Own from Amazon.com. The speakers moved too fast, and the spellings and rules are not as easy to follow as Spanish. It just doesn't look like it sounds, and then there are a million exceptions for each combination of vowels and consonants. Pretty difficult, but a lovely language. I learned this one easily enough: Slan go foille. Hmm, maybe I'm just lazy...:-)

@Gawaine687 I don't know if the website is still up, but try the Celtic Lyrics Corner. They translate a lot of gaelic song lyrics, including several of Clannad's...but, man, is that a hard language to learn! I gave up. LOL

Who is the other woman in this video? (Other than Moya) Is it a sister? Deirdre, perhaps?

@Sportymike thanks, but i was hoping to get the actual words. i absolutely love the beautiful blend of the sound of the words to the music, but especially since i love stories and love songs, i was hoping i could get the actual lyrics.

@Gawaine687 I'm a fluent Irish speaker from Gaoth Dobhair and I can tell you that they are singing about Storytelling, an old Irish past-time. She is talking about different types of stories or lore, long/short, sad/happy, interesting/boring etc. I hope that helps :) Greetings from Ireland

I cant stop listening to the wonderful song. After so many years, this is still my absolute favorite song of all time!!! But does anyone here know gaelic? I'd love to know what exactly they are singing about.

One of Clannad's most impressive songs. Although Maire is the sister of Eithne (Enya), she has mostly a very different style of music.
