Clannad are a Grammy Award-winning Irish musical group, from Gweedore (Gaoth Dobhair), County Donegal. Their music has been variously described as bordering on folk and folk rock, Irish, and New Age. They are known for performing in various languages, including English, Latin, Gàidhlig, Mohican and most of all in their native tongue, Irish.

Clannad are Moya Brennan (born Máire Ní Bhraonáin), Ciarán Brennan (born Ciarán Ó Braonáin), Pól Brennan (born Pól Ó Braonáin), Noel Duggan (born Noel Ó Dúgáin) and Pádraig Duggan (born Pádraig Ó Dúgáin).

Clannad first made their mark in the folk and traditional scene in the 1970s in Ireland and Europe, they subsequently went on to bridge the gap between traditional celtic music and pop music in the 1980s and 1990s with albums such as Macalla and Anam. During their successful career they toured the world extensively and gained fans in every major territory. Lead singer Moya Brennan and her sister Enya have also enjoyed huge success as solo artists. The band won a Grammy Award in 1998 for Best New Age Album, and their record sales exceed the 15 million mark. They are also regarded as the band which, for the first time, put Irish traditional music and the Irish language on the world stage and paved the way for many other Irish artists.

After ten years disbanded, the five original members of Clannad reunited on stage at the Celtic Connections Festival in February 2007 in Glasgow. They expressed their wishes to release a new studio album, but no official announcements have been made as yet. Moya, Ciarán, Noel and Pádraig embarked on their first UK tour in over 10 years in the Spring of 2008, starting in Gateshead.

LYRICS (also known as An Bealach Seo 'tá Romham)

Is minic mé ag smaoitiú

Is mé ag féachaint ar gach taobh dom

Is feicim sluaite daoiní

Eadar aosta agus óg

'S iad fá dheifre shíoraí

Ag siúl a' bealach céanna

Ina bhfuil mé féin go cloíte

Ag taisteal leo sa ród

Is leanfaidh siad a choíche

Is saint ina gcroíthe

Ag bailiú leo maoin shaolta

Ó mhaidin go neoin

Tá mise ag leanstan daofa

Ní bhfaighidh mé sos ná scríste

Go sroichí mé ceann scríbeadh

Sa bhealach seo 'tá romham

Is iomaí cor is lúbadh

Sa turas chun na huaighe

Is iomaí ábhar buartha

'Casfar ort sa tslí

Ach 's fusa iad a shárú

Le greann agus le gáire

'S a bheith i gcónaí sásta

Nó a theacht le toil an Rí

Is cuma cad é atá i ndán domh

Ag Dia amháin atá a fhios ag sin

Ní bheidh mé choíche cráite

Le buaireamh ná brón

Ach cuirfidh mé mo dhóchas

I nDia mhór na Glóire

Is dhéanfaidh sé mo threorú

Sa bhealach seo 'tá romhainn

@Pagan roots. Why would I be sarcastic? If you understood Irish, you would know what the second last line means, and refers to Christ. I know the man who wrote this song, and he was a Christian man. Sorry if this insults your pagan virtues. Its a great song as it is, so I hate the way people try to put some mystical pagan hippy vibe on it, just because it's in the Irish language. Once you mention Christ, you are hit with all the intolerant liberals, who want to censor out other peoples' faiths, as they push their own ideologies. Maybe you should dislike this song from now on because it's not pagan.

@Biervampy An Gearmánach tú agus an bhfuil Gaeilge agat? Bheadh sé go hiontach. (Also, wenn du wirklich Irisch sprichst brauch ich das nicht übersetzen). Slán agus go n-éirí leat = Tschüss und viel Glück)

@kealyc Gaeilge was spoken in south Kilkenny up to 1949 and these native speakers have been recorded. So Leinster Gaeilge no longer has living native speakers, written and oral records of it does exist.

I get a great rush of Gaelic pride every time I listen to this. Bród na nGaedhil. If there was any song that would make you pound your fist on a table with blood hot in your veins, and images in the mind harking back to the golden age of our warriors, and last stand of Gaelic Ireland - this is it. I especially love the line ' I'll put my hopes in the one God of Glory' (Christ) !!!!! and for anyone who may dispute this - don't forget we Irish have been Christian for 1500 years.
