The Harbor Church is one of the smallest churches in Ventura, CA., yet arguably they do the most to help the homeless. Each day, Harbor Church opens its doors to the homeless, providing: daily chapel services, worship music, Bible studies and prayer. They also engage the homeless through pastoral counseling. They also offer daily breakfast and lunch, hot showers, clothing and laundry facilities to those in need.

Because they help the homeless each day, the City of Ventura has ordered the church to close its doors during the week. Neighbors have been complaining to the city because they hate seeing homeless walk past their houses. They've filed complaints with city about the homeless behaving poorly in the neighborhood. But when asked to provide specifics or point out the individual that behaved poorly, neighbors are mysteriously mute. Enoch Magazine discovered The Harbor Church 4 years ago and has helped them with video needs ever since.

They should have kept opening their door and extended their hours.I'm not religious, but those people have every right to practice what they want.

Wow, it sounds like Venutura is trying to compete with Sarasota, FL. as being the meanest city towards the poor in America. BTW- Sarasota was officially declared the meanest city towards the homeless, and FL. got the dubious distinction as being the meanest state towards the homeless and poor.

It truly is a shame how when the few churches that do dare to help are stifled by the authorities at the behest of very mean spirited people.

I'm sorry to you folks. I am and I hope you will relocate to a great place. I imagine since you shared a fence with a kindergarten class and along with good people, some violent felons, sex offenders and drug abusers use your facilities , was a huge factor in why it was best you continue your wonderful services elsewhere. Charity is very important..the safety of many children seems very important too... anything can happen anywhere but you up the odds like this...I am truly sorry it has disrupted your services . I know that your passion for helping these people and your faith in God will help you continue doing what you love. I wish the powers that be ( money wise ) city/state would help with these issues more but alas, they are not as kind as you folks.... I hope to see your new place in a better place soon. peace and love

Live Scan technology allows digitally scanned fingerprints and related information to be submitted electronically to the Department of Justice within a matter of minutes and allows criminal background checks to be processed usually within 72 hours. The question is, is this legal and should the city have the right to do that? I understand that they want to protect the community from people who want to do wrong things or do things that are illegal, However, I believe that the city should work with the church to find solutions and not have to shut down a wonderful project that turn lives around. I would contact ACLJ and Liberty institute.

Can anyone provide a link to a news article about the closing? I have searched for some time and cannot find any news on the closing. I am wondering what the issue is, as the video doesn't explain any details about the closing.

Homeless In Ventura

I have been homeless in Ventura, and can say with no regret Harbor Church is not what you think you are supporting. This is one of the reasons I will not go there, ( went once ). These people in this neighborhood have reason to be concerned! These same people you see in this video are drug dealers, and users. They do not want to change and are happy with what they do. Hiding behind this church is a shame. If I am wrong then here is how it can be proven. First and for most use live scan! ( the church refused ) Second require a drug test, even on those that claim or work for this organization. The true reason they were closed is they refused live scan to protect the neighborhood! Live scan, will show convicted sex offenders! Now would you want a pedophile in your neighborhood?

The backward city that closed this Church have no morals or conscience and they are the kind of hatful people God won't allow into Heaven.

I say that maybe the location of this Church next to a school and park is the perfect location for this outreach. It seems to me the opponents, as parents, are doing a piss poor job of teaching COMPASSION to their children. What they want to do is insulate their children from the realities of the world (OH, those people are so sad...I'm glad they aren't in OUR neighborhood). Those homeless come to get a meal, some services that take a bunch of red tape and paperwork to accomplish through city and county services, and they get their souls and spiritual selves ministered to...something the opponents, I would say, are in much greater need of than the homeless, based on this evidence. Why don't you NIMBY's get involved, and try to help steer the outreach, rather than outright shut it down? Maybe instead of your kids coming home and getting on the computer or burying their faces and thumbs on Twitter and Facebook or escaping into some mind numbing violent video game, stay at home Mom should take her kids to volunteer at the church. Maybe, just maybe, they'll turn out better than Mom and Pop, who are more worried about their property values and their green lawn than they are about the least of those among us.

What we, as supporters of this outreach should do, is make OUR presence known in that neighborhood. After all, we're not homeless, so they can't drive us away. Who's open for a show of force...maybe hundreds or thousands of us? Let's fill up their sidewalks, park and streets. Let the real Venturans voices be heard in support of those less fortunate.

:(I volunteered here at least a few times....and this church was actually helping the homeless with good food, free phone calls and moral support. I saw tons of people get good treatment and much more. So the city says they should shut down during the week?So let me get this straight...the city... which i also live in... doesnt do squat to help the homeless at all for about 7 years of me living here, and then they shut down a place thats actually HELPING the homeless and needy?And... dont worry, im already pissed at our idiotic Mayor stick up his ass for many reasons... but now I feel a strong urge to go to a city counsel meeting and complain about this on TV for the whole county to see.I see the homeless population grow exponentially here day by day, year by year...while the city government doesnt do shit about it. and then THIS happens..Wtf is going on in our mayors head... that he wouldnt get offended by this asanine bullshit??

I live in this neighborhood too, and I think its complete BULLSHIT why this church got shut down. These people are just trying to stay alive from day to day. And the city took away their place for worship and help. And for the other resident that claims she's been sexually harassed on her way to school: sweetheart, there are other ways to get to school. Take a bus. (but I can't guarantee you the same thing won't happen by normal people) Have someone drive you. Walk a different route. And yes, We will pray for you too, We will pray that you do get some sleep. In your warm bed. Inside your warm house. That you get to go home to every night. If only we were all so lucky.

Viewers, please ask yourself why was the church shut down? It wasn't stated. I myself am a christian and I now understand why they had to close the church. The video only show one side and that is shameful. They close the church because of it location. The church is located near an elementary school and a playground. Kids lives are as risk. Must they wait until something bad happens before some action take place? I am not saying all homeless are bad but there are few that are bad. The church should listen to the neighbourhood voices and not make them look like the bad ones. The church shouldn't only focus on helping the helpless only, but helping and taking care of it neighbourhood and making it safe. Nope, I think it was the church that had failed in this case. They thought of only what they were doing and forget to think how it would affect the neighbourhood. They just need to find a better location. Maybe, this had happen for a good cause. Maybe this had to happen for them to go and search for a better location where they would help double the amount of people, especially the neigbourhood. When one door close, another will open. This church had lost it faith too quickly.

Here is the TRUTH you don't see in the enoch propaganda. The church is on Prebel Ave. next to a school, park, and daycare. The homeless population has a very high percentage of mentally ill and registers sex offenders. So what the church has done is put a large number of sex offenders and mentally ill people right next to children. Now the kids in the neighborhood can't walk around or play without parents constantly there. No one is against feeding the homeless, but child safety has to come first and the church is unwilling to to relocate the meals to an area that is safer for the children.
