In 1971, infamous Hendrix producer Ed Chaplin hustled "The King of The Twist" Chubby Checker into recording an album of psychedelic soul for his PPX Productions. The album got various releases under different low-budget imprints; in Britain the album was called "Chequered" and was released on London Records, another version was released in Belgium called "Slow Twistin'" on MFP Reocords, and YET another version on 51 West Records was called "New Revelation". Not too many people heard this album. In fact, the release was so limited that this album is now almost impossible to find on vinyl. Fortunately, the album was recently released for the first time on CD by French record label Underground Masters.

In any case, I think it is Chubby Checker's best work.

This is the opening track on the album, the amazing "Goodbye, Victoria".

Hi Chubby, I don't know if you remember me but I did backup on this record Victoria. I just want to thank you for the privilege of singing with you. Joanie Late of Joanie Late and the Soul-jers.

I guess I would have to physically be Chubby Checker to understand why he hates this so much. I understand the artist thing where when they either voluntarily or involuntarily stray from their usual "sound", it can cause a major backlash from fans, critics, or the biggest critic of them all: the aforementioned artist. But me personally, I've always loved shit like this. It's perfect, I'm glad he made this record.

I have this track on a CBS album - didn't know the origination. Was told in the '80s that the song was cut in '68. Anyway, looks like I'll be looking out 4 this baby. Thanx.
