After he'd finished with all the twistin', limboing, flying and mashed potatoing, Chubby came along with this great sound that was actually issued as a B side over here in the UK. It went on to be a big sound in the soul discos of the late sixties and early seventies. Always a floor-filler, so bounce around with Chubby to this one.

@danbennerdotcom Same here. I thought it was tribal, too. A substitute teacher played it for us in music class in 1980 or so and I've had it in my head ever since.

I havent heard this since 3rd grade. We learned it in the 70s but I thought it was some tribal song, not Chubby Checker.

Great song. brings back memories. I used to play this at 'The Pelican' in Warboys, Cambridgeshire. We used to play a lot of rarities, most of which are now known as Northern soul. Great stuff

Massive Youth Club record when I was a lad.... many, many years ago. (I don't think I've heard it since about 1971!)

I've never heard this before. The lyrics indicate that it's from a few years after the Twist, since you're urged to do the Jerk. I can see how this would be a dance floor hit since the words indicate what to do: form a circle, someone gets in the center, etc. A Chubby Checker song which was popular in the USA, but which I haven't heard for about 45 years, is similar to this one in using nonsense lyrics: "Hooka Tooka".
