My first punk band played a miserable cover of this song. I think I've finally reached the point where I can listen to it without cringing from the memory of playing it over and over again and still not getting it right. All three of us enjoyed the "theory" of being in a punk band at the time; the practicing part killed us. We was all hat and no cowboy.

@artistim - Dude the message isn't the music.. What the song is saying is that you don't have to be decked out and look like a punk to be into punk.. That's why it says "i guess fashion keeps the youth confined" because a lot of the idiots think you have to fit a certain look and they go onto say " i thought we listened with our ears" meaning you don't have to fit a look to be into punk.. true today as it was the day this song was released.

This song meant so much to me as a teen, used to have tons of shit cos i was the only long-haired rocker at a punk gig. Punk, produced well, is a lot better than loads of so-called thrash/speed metal bands. Brilliant song, brilliantly done.

I remember one of the punk and disorderly versions I had hearing this song and back then I was more into faster paced music but after expanding my music I love Chron Gen !! I love the message in the song that just because you're into punk doesn't mean you have to have mohawk and a studded leather jacket, bondage jeans to be punk.
