@ Deaglan Griffin Christy still holds onto his views regarding the struggle in the North and the Conflict that was visited onto it's people by Imperialism...Check out his most receint Cd release...of last week 'where I come from'.... he sings of 'Francis Hughes'...... on his song,'The Boy from Tamlaghtduff' Disc three track six

its a shame he doesn't have the same views today, he hates anything to do with the PIRA or any republican who had that view back then

Under Michael Collins, as far as I know, yes. They used more targeted killings (such as the elimination of the Cairo Gang), rather than the more scattergun attacks of more recent times.

i thought under micheal collins it was those needed to be killed were killed and none or very little innocent civilians were killed

Yes I know it was. Anyway, I meant more such as an Anglo-Irish guy I know who repeatedly says things like he understands the IRA's cause and tactics in the 10s/20s but didn't agree with the tactics on the Provos. This is a typical view of many who have no idea what they are talking about. In every Anglo-Irish conflict both sides have always had blood on their hands.

It was all for the same goal but when people say more noble, they honestly have not got a clue about the north of Ireland, They only react to whats on the news. The news sure as hell did not tell it like it was. Pro Brit story's only. Its funny how these people will champion the IRA but give no respect to the P.IRA considering they fought a 30 year war with the british, that alone should be respected in the highest, these men patriots and should be treated in the same way any war hero should be.

technically there is no such group called the IRA anymore. The IRA split in the early 70s creating the Official IRA (a marxist group seeking their goal via peaceful means) and the Provisonal IRA a younger more radical group prepared to use violence. As it was the PIRA that stayed in line with the IRAs original tactics of gueriila warfare it was the PIRA that had more of a resemblance of the IRA 1919-23 Which is why it annoys me when people say the 'old' IRA was more noble etc

no he is not talking about the old IRA, he is talking about the Provos the black and tans had little or no trouble in the north of Ireland , Any english army are refereed to as tans , this song would have been made around the start of the troubles

The Provos split with the IRA , the IRA and the Provos were two different groups with the same goal just different ways of archiving it,

@dkr56 The Official IRA was mainly seen as the continuation of the the old IRA. The Provisional IRA were generally considered to be the splinter group, who had more popularity.

@2doctoma they are basically the same. There is no 'old' IRA. The P.IRA is seen as a direct continuation of the 'old' IRA

@ninjawageslave You do realise that he is singing about the old IRA, who were much more noble than the Provisional IRA. I can tell this as he talks about the Black n Tans.
