Toto belongs in "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". I know these wonderful guys have been inducted in 'the Musicians Hall' but since they were with Boz Scaggs on his 'Silk Degrees' album and on Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album along with Eddie Van Halen, plus having won several Grammy's for their Toto album 'Toto IV' makes these guys one of the most talented bands ever. Jeff Porcaro was the drummer for 'Sonny and Cher Live in Las Vegas', Steely Dan's album 'Katy Lied', Seals & Crofts 'Diamond Girl', Jackson Browne 'The Pretender', Bruce Springsteen 'Human Touch' and so many other artists and albums.

This is one of those (many) songs where, probably 20 years after the song was released, I heard it again and realized that it HAD to be Jeff Porcaro playing drums. There's no mistaking that feel. An incredibly perfect mix of technique and taste. What I wouldn't give to have gotten a chance to see him perform in person.

2 great legend musicians and really warm human beings - Jeff left us too soon; Dudley Moore also left us too soon. Very tragic how they both died.

The brilliance of Jeff was that he would push the 4th beat of certain fills, and on the down beat of the one, he would lay back into the groove with that magically Jeff 'feel'. I always attributed it to the feeling of climbing up the first hill of a roller coaster...the pause....and away you go. Pure finesse.

No doubt Christopher Cross' "THE BEST THAT YOU CAN DO" was eternally blessed by Porcaro's magically pop drum skills. His impeccable approach to "rich & tasty" and "never-exactly-the-same" fills, rolls and quick strikes & returns, puts this classic song in a class all it's own. If you get the chance, watch the your DVD of "ARTHUR"; at the very beginning of the 'Limo Scene', bits & pieces of an alternate take of the song is featured. One can hear Porcaro with different interpretations of the song!

One of the best drum takes ever and a masterclass in popsong production and as ever if you're going to make a great record it helps if you start with a great song. One of my favourite tracks ever. Oliver Moriarty
