Christine McVie has a voice like an air harp, a soft, breezy lilt sailing through the strings. Stevie Nick's talent, in contrast, was limited and rested primarily on her inarguable ability to harmonize. Her individual success had much more to do with stage presence, being astonishingly (and prolifically) photogenic and playing the boho chic card to incredible commercial advantage. Nick's solo voice depended very much on the highly skilled musical arrangements of her stream-of-consciousness song lyrics (ie: through Lindsay Buckingham, Jimmy Iovine), because without that, her tone was brittle and off-key. McVie, on the other hand, has always been a natural.
