I can't get enough of Christina Perri. Many people do not know this, but music took a steep dive in the very late 80s. Alternative was the new genre. It wasn't real though. That is, it didn't use any new chord progressions or uncommon instruments or introduce any new playing styles. The only thing about it that was really new was the vocals, which usually consisted of the forced nasal sound set apart from, and played louder than normal so it stood out above the [rock and roll] music (as opposed to the natural nasal sound such as Tom Petty, for example, which was mixed so that it flowed along with the music.) Often, the singer had minimal singing skills. This dive continued through the 90s. It was accompanied by 80s rock and metal bands, some of whom played their old music with different words and called it a new song. Others chose instead to go "unplugged" which featured their old music from the 70s and 80s. Some though kept it simple, just releasing "box sets" of their old music. FINALLY, in 2000, the first hero from PA hit the scene. Pink brought on a desperately needed change. Music began a recovery process that was long overdue. When it started though, it started at full speed. 10 years later, a new star from Pennsylvania, Christina Perri lit up the sky like no other with the style that was real, a musician's style. She plays. she writes. She sings, and she does all so well. That's what I can't get enough of.
