Did Chris play that guitar intro? It sounds so much like John Miles.

Great memories of Kenny Everett's breakfast show in the early days of Capital Radio - '73, '74. Everett loved his stuff - as lots of us still do!

Sad to hear he's gone - used to love his joyful songs.

when radio stations start playing great songs again he may be ( discovered ) by an enterprising dj and placed alongside other great artists like nick drake who have been appreciated posthumously..

RIP Chris - I'm going to make a tribute video for you.

He should have called it "I Woke Up Yesterday Morning" and that way people would have remembered the title when they went to the record shop. Then perhaps this tune would have got into the pop charts

Ditto. A friend of mine asked me if I had heard the song and only shortly after did I hear it once or twice on Capital. Didn't ehar it again until stumbling across it youtube. Ah! They don't make nostalgia like that anymore.

My ex used to sing with Chris, he was always a great guy to have around. SOOO talented. My ex sang "magical mystical man" a great song. Wish I still had a copy. I think I have some Chris Rainbow stuff somewhere, must look it up. Wish he was still recording, he never got enough notoriety. Didn't manage a lot of radio interviews, lol

The Chris Rainbow Anthology (38 tracks) is now widely available for download. I got mine from 7Digital for UK£7.99 (320kps). Solid State Brain is included, as is the B-side, Electra City.

"Seymour Duncan" was the manufacturer of the pickups on the guitar that was used in the studio on this track! It was a joke! There are actually four guitar takes on the track, and they were "bounced down" to two to save space on the multitrack machine for the layers of vocals!

@knobstick I first heard it in London 1974, all I remembered was that it was great and the name, Christopher Rainbow. Never heard it again or saw his name in any record shop, beginning to think I imagined it until I got on youtube. Thanks so much for putting it up, and I was right, it is great!

Pity he never had a chart hit - his career might really have taken off.
