Fantaisie Impromptu, Op. 66

Arthur Rubinstein, piano

The Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, Opus posthumous 66, is a solo piano composition and one of his most well-known pieces. It was composed in 1834 and dedicated to Julian Fontana. Fontana published the piece in spite of Chopin's request not to do so. The piece uses many cross-rhythms (the right hand plays sixteenth notes against the left hand playing triplets) and a ceaselessly moving note figuration and is in cut time. The opening tempo is marked allegro agitato. The tempo changes to largo and later moderato cantabile when the key changes to D-flat major, the enharmonic equivalent of the more obscure tonic major key of C-sharp major, that is, the parallel major of C-sharp minor. The piece then changes to presto (although some versions of the score incorporate a coda, meaning that the original tempo of allegro agitato is repeated) where it continues in C-sharp minor as before. It ends off in an ambiguous fantasy-like ending, in a quiet and mysterious way, where the left hand replays the first few notes of the moderato section theme, while the right hand continues playing sixteenth notes. The piece resolves and gently ends on a C-sharp major rolled chord.

I learned a lot of classical music from cartoons, and this piece was used in the Tom and Jerry cartoon "Snowbody Love Me". The tearful scene where Tom puts Jerry out in the snow to freeze, then his conscience bothers him and he brings Jerry back.

I hear so many excellent musicians not just mere pianists or exponents of an instrumnt that I had forgotten how fine Rubinstein's Chopin . There is a philosophy to how this man's music should go .The French Joseffy through Cortot.Lefebvre,Leiser and everone else and Collard and everyone in between are wrong.the Russians are wrong too but they make wonderful listebning .one woud like to think the long generation of Poles Malcuszinxky,Hofmann,Paderewsky everoneof the brilliant 20th century pianists would know better but... alas . again my favorite chopin is not hofmann and it certainly ain'tRachmaninoff's Choin .amazing but wrongheaded .I of course can just move my fingers so I too have no issibility of ever playing a Chopin inaccordance with what those inhisday or even Chopin himswlf would have approved. ship of fools we all are on this earth .thereisnota Spanish schoolbut theremaybe an Italian way of doing Chopin .Busoni hadmany students as ddMihelangeli and other Italian pianists Many south Americans have played international roles in essaying Chopin but they were all taught by French,German ,english even Japanese pianists who itnowseems leadallof us whether ornotweascribe to their playing .Lang Lang is really oneof the finest players ever . He can do anything Lupu has given us no Chopinthat i am aware of ! Argerich is supremeas is Murray Perahia Sokolov,Arrau ,DeLarrochaandsomanyothers have nevebeenbettered !

Isn't it sort of suspicious how most people saying they can play pieces like this easily have Minecraft profile pics?Makes me question their claims.

What a beautiful, and insane piano piece. I tried teaching myself this. I got 2 bars in... and decided I'd just be a trumpet player.
