This is a recording of Rich Mullins' classic praise song, "Awesome God", recorded by the group "Choice Lifestyle" on their 1988 independent album, "Rich Mullins produced the album and played all of the instruments on this track. It is my understanding that this was very first version of this song ever released— even predating Rich's own recording of the song.

Any thoughts on where I can get lyrics and chords for some of these? Saw Choice at SCYC, bought the tape, and wanted to do some of these, but didn't learn to play until years after my only tape was lost to posterity. Any help would be [email protected].

Please keep me posted if you do a remaster of this. I've uploaded all of the songs that Rich wrote... have considered uploading the rest of the album as well :-)

Hey Bill, Thanks for all of the great info! I always thought it was Rich playing piano on the track so that's interesting to know it's not him! Also, I had no idea he sang on any of the tracks... cool to know who all was singing in the choir on this one! I have this album on cassette... picked up a used copy on Amazon a few years back. I assumed it was probably released on vinyl too, however, I had no idea there was a CD!

I might try to re-engineer the cuts using my present day studio, but they would be from the cassette (yes, I was ignorant enough not to get the CD!), but I think I can make the tracks sound so much better even though. Sincerely, Bill Hemmert (and it is a pleasure to see this is still alive out there still!)

(Post #2) It was recorded here in Wichita at Doug Adam's studio Pro-Audio Systems. I engineered this compilation and was incredible working with Rich, sometimes past midnight, to get these cuts mixed out. This was pre-digital and we had absolutely no post-mixing facilities, so listening to the cuts now, they were not too bad. The machine they were recorded on was an Akai 12-channel board with built in tape, it looked something like a Beta tape.

Hiya! I believe that this was a cut re-recorded after Rich's version was released. It's true that Rich played most of the instrumentation on these cuts, but on this particular one, Jeff played the piano part. The background voices you hear are from the voices of Rich and, if I remember right, three different groups of folks from the Central Christian Church here in Wichita Kansas.
