Thank you!! I completely agree. There's absolutely nothing wrong with listening to non-goth music as long as one does not refer to it as goth. There is a specific criteria to be met for a band to fall under the goth umbrella. That doesn't mean it's bad music.

When people call themselves "goth" It becomes what we listen to and do as an entire subculture. Gothic rock is the genre that we as generally agree on it doesn't mean that there are no other forms of "goth" music. IMHO.

Well none of these bands of their time called themselves "goth." I would argue that goth music is whatever "goths" listen to collectively. Ask Siouxsee she says do what you feel and fuck everyone else. People label her goth and she says she's not. What about Andrew Eldritch? Robert Smith? None of them goth.

He mentioned only "cyber" which for some reason people associate in place of goth music. I like my fair share of EBM, Industrial etc, but the point is, it's not actual "goth", so as to say to the original comment; Goth is still "real" with plenty of current bands and hasn't somehow changed into cyber. The two are separate entities (sure there are some bands which do cross overs) and one doesn't equal the other.

Cyber goth? Are we talking about Futurepop, EBM, industrial or dark electronic music? I mostly like post punk classic goth rock and death rock but I also like some industrial, older EBM and futurepop. Does this mean I like fake goth music? What about Darkwave that genre is heavily synth driven.
