Erik Darling is a folk music legend, and Child, Child is the title track of his 2000 album. Erik played both banjo and guitar and had a compelling tenor voice. He died in 2008, just after completing his autobiography, I'd Give My Life! The book follows Erik's journey through the world of folk music, from the Tarriers (The Banana Boat Song) to his years with the Weavers to the Rooftop Singers (Walk Right In) to Darling and Street and his many other music projects that followed. The book I'd Give My LIfe! includes a CD (The Best of Erik Darling) and is available on amazon.com and from Erik's publisher, Science and Behavior Books (sbbks.com). The song Child, Child was co-authored by Pat Street and is illustrated on this video with antique and vintage photographs from Pat's collection (© Pat Street). Erik's friends maintain his website at www.erikdarling.com. Thats Erik with a k.

Harry, Erik and I made an album together of songs we co-wrote -- It's called "Darling & Street: The Possible Dream." Vanguard put it out in 1975. It's pretty scarce, and there isn't a CD except in Japan :-), but there should still be some LPs around. Lots of good songs on it, if I do say so myself... Pat

Many people who have come to our home have seen the video along with the song..Those photos are wonderful, really. I did read his autobiography, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks again for bringing this recording to the public. Harry

This is wonderful, Ms. Street. It's an awesome video. Eric Darling is one of my heros and I play his music all the time on my truck radio. What a great collaboration. Thanks! Harry Katz

Thanks for the comment, alonzo -- he was a lot of people's hero! I have his old bottle neck. Have you read his autobiography? I think you'd like it.

Erik was simply a hero to me as a 15-year-old aspiring folkie, and I will never forget his kindness in coming out of the tiny dressing room at the Troubadour to show us (me and my friends Rich and Mike) how he used his slide to play "True Religion." He's still, and always will be, heroic.

Eric was an absolute monster. He was a virtuoso on both banjo & guitar. He was one of the first folkies to play with a deep groove. His work with the Weavers, first turned me on to his many talents. When I heard his wicked 12 string work on "Walk right in", it was a musical epiphany. I

Thanks for visiting and watching my video. It's my first one, so it's great to hear you liked it. Erik and I wrote songs and performed together during the '60s and '70s. When he died in 2008, he had just finished his autobiography I'D GIVE MY LIFE! A JOURNEY BY FOLK MUSIC (It's available on Amazon.) It includes a great CD. CHILD, CHILD is on it, and my favorite cut is JUMPIN' JUDY, which he sings a capella. -- Pat
