Photos we took at the Dec. 1, 1977 Chicago concert in Oakland, California. It would end up being singer and guitarist Terry Kath's last concert performance. He would fatally shoot himself a little more than 7 weeks later.

The song is Kath's "Hope For Love" from Chicago X.

For a guy who reportedly didn't care for the band's ballads, Kath sure did create a beauty with this one.

Man, he was a soulful cat, and did have a Ray Charles quality about his voice. Left us way too soon. Rest in peace, Terry Kath.

The difference between Kath's physical condition at this final show and what it was just two or three years earlier is appalling. Somebody should have locked that guy in a room with limited food, water, and his Stratocaster until he got his act together. He never lost that smooth baritone voice though. What a tragic waste of talent and loss to the music world.

I was at that concert. I gotta say that up to that point I had been to tons of concerts and had seen all the great bands of the 60's-70's but none compare to this particular one, Terry's last one. When they came out for their third encore, I couldn't believe that it could get any louder from the audience . . . but it did! To me that was testimony of how great the band was but more, how great Terry Kath made them. He truly was the heart and soul and will always be remembered as one of rock's finest musician/guitarist/soloist/songwriter/bandleader. RIP my man. We love you - always

Can't believe it's been 37 years already since we lost the heart and soul of Chicago. So very, very sad.

Sorry about Terry's death but I feel a little victimized here because I got online and Googled 'Youtube Chicago wishing you were here' and got this sad, sad video. When you're contemplating suicide this is the last thing you want to see, a story about someone who had it all and killed themself where I am a nobody with nothing and no one and still alive. Geeez - I don't feel sentimental anymore, I just feel sick at my stomach.

Still makes me cry after 36 years when I see this pictures and read the words! What a loss for music and people who loved him or where loved by him. When I see the pictures of Terry from the last 12 months of his life and also concert footage: he was gettin fatter and fatter, his eyes often look so sad and lookin gout to nowhere - he lost his condition and concentration - it made me feel so sad - that´s what pressure and drugs made out of this unbeliefable person and musican. It´s sooooo sad!R.I.P Brother - gone but never forgotton!
