Do you even know what opera is? I seriously doubt it. When she was young she was a classical crossover singer. An opera singer is someone who sings roles in live operas. She herself would tell you she cannot do it. Maybe you should learn some culture. This is how this sounds when sung by a real opera singer: /watch?v=OV-ZfCWM3qo

I like both classical and non-classical Charlotte and I don't think her voice is by an means shot to sing classical style if she chose to. She sang a little snippet of Lakme on the Jonathan Ross show in Oct. of 2012 and I think her voice sounded damn good, considering she doesn't regularly sing in classical style right now. I can't post the link to it here since You Tube doesn't allow it, but it's pretty easy to find in search.

You are very welcome. I have some fond memories too. BTW, not sure if you heard Malena Ernmann, she is an opera singer, but she sings jazz an pop too, and interestingly she doesn't sound at all like opera singer when she does it.

Yes, you are right. I don't really call one genre more noble than another, there are fantastic pop singers too (more of them in the past though) and there used to be some good pop songs too, more of them in the past though. But yes, you are right.

Charlotte's timbre was beautiful, and absolutely she could've been an opera singer with training. It's gone now. But Carmen isn't a little girl (actually you may like Julia Migenes-Johnson's Carmen, she couldn't do it on opera stage as she said herself in an interview though she was a very successful Lulu at the Met, but she was great in the movie). Carmen is written for a mezzo though and requires a stronger voice than Gruberova or Dessay, both are great coloratura sopranos of course.

This is not an opera. An opera is a theatrical performance, it's an extended work of drama/comedy set to music, the singers are singing roles; like a musical except for operas are performed without amplification. AND in classical music, composer's intentions are the most important. She doesn't sing it as written. She was never an opera singer, maybe with training she could've become one, but it's too late now.

She was never an opera singer. An opera singer is a singer who sings in live operas without microphones, she could never do that. As a child, she had a nice voice and potential and if she'd gotten training she might've become an opera singer (or not), but her voice isn't what it was, and no, she'll never be able to sing opera, it's too late. OH, and here she is singing butchered version of habanera with a mic. Very different from: /watch?v=OV-ZfCWM3qo
