This is one of Charlie's best but lesser known recordings. I have to disagree to some extent with some of the earlier comments as this recording fits in perfectly with the "Nashville Sound" of the mid-sixties. It just demonstrates that Charlie was equally at home with Country as with other styles.

On this day in 1974 {June 15th} "I Don't See Me In Your Eyes Anymore" reached #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... About five weeks earlier on May 4th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #47 and spent 6 weeks in the Top 100... It reached #7 on the Canadian RPM Country chart... Charlie Rich passed away on July 25th, 1995 at the age of 62... May he R.I.P.

What a perfect song for Charlie Rich and perfect with a country motif behind him.

Another #1 hit for Charlie Rich on the Country & Western charts. It was the 298 #1 C&W song of the Rock Era. It also hit #7 on the Canadian C&W charts and #3 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary charts.

Yes, his roots went to swing, jazz, blues, and gospel rather than country...which makes considering the fact that, upon single release by RCA Records in 1974 (Groove, an imprint, shut down around 9 years prior), it went #1 on the country chart (and the top 50 of the Hot 100), along with being 1 of a 2-way tie of a record for most #1s in a calendar year a bit ironic and weird to say the least. However, the quality was great as always, and Charlie put feeling into this, as always! R.I.P. 7/25/95

I also love this song, especially the Silver Fox's performance. I'm just imagining how it might have sounded if it were done by Ray Charles. Probably not a lot different!

The original recording by Gordon Jenkins is a masterpiece. I thought this song never got the attention it deserved and asked Joni James many times to record it. She knew it (she sang it for me) and said it was a song she liked, too. I still think it would make a great Joni James record.

Belleive it or not, this song was orignally recorded back in the 1930s by the wonderful Gordon Jenkins Orchestra with the Staples Singers - yet more evidence that Charlie's roots went back to swing bands rather than Country. Another song Rich recorded at the same time, Like Someone in Love, was written for the Western Musical 'Belle of the Yukon' - but Charlie's version is 100 times better!
