I have studied this piece for a month now. Endlessly fascinating. The first three or measures have pretty straight forward chord changes. Then he throws in a two beat measure, leading to confusion about the down beat. At the same time he changes the tonic center. leading to a very strange set of changes, that somehow come back to the original tonic center in the end. And, as Profound Studios note, the counterpoint is magic. Pure Mingus. A genius ! - Craig Lints, Methow Valley, Washington

My favorite Mingus piece. The counterpoint is so perfect.

Does anyone know if this has been played as a solo piece for bass?

@LSDpeasantry You're 1/2 right.Only the 1st part of the tune is based on "All the Things...".My bad. One of Mingus' other tunes,"All The Things You Could Be If Sigmund Freud's Wife Were Your Mother" is entirely based on those changes.Seriously.

@postatility perhaps i would be so lucky, but is it based on the changes of All the things you are?? I don't think it is...

Of all the adaptations over the years of "All The Things You Are",this might be the most moving.

@beefshotgun I've also found that road trips are a great way to soak in some jazz. Get on a long stretch of highway, set the cruise control, and just tune in.
