I remember all the Musicians who played on this. Recorded in Houston, Texas. I was the organ player on this song. great memories. The flip side sold just as many copies though. ;-)

I don't suppose he recorded this years ago, did he? I remember hearing a version of this at a club dance years ago and fell in love with the song. But I didn't know who was singing it. Neil Diamond was the first recorder, but I don't think it was him. I had thought it was a black singer, actually, or maybe a southerner.

The best version, absolutely. And I don't say that just 'cause I'm from south Louisiana, too. It really is. Really soulful.

Not enough youngsters taking the torch. Van and Kenny and Kenny and them cant do it forever. Even though they do it so good. I like lookin thru my dads old ALBUMS and reminiscing.

So true. This version is better than Neil Diamond and he wrote the song. The UB40 version lacks the soul and roots of Charles Mann.

Wow it's a small world after all. I see the Big Oaks in Louisiana from the Music Burglar and that really brought back the memories. The Boggie Kings. Dang I danced my legs off. We were so lucky to grow up and grow old with this best of all music. We had the best. It wasn't far from Port Arthur Texas to Across The River At The Big Oaks.

I used to listen to this song over and over at J's Lounge in Gramercy, Louisiana. People hated to see me walk to the juke box but i didn't care. that song grabs my heart. I believe that song to be the best song ever sung and Charles Mann's voice rips through your heart.

Or the Texas Pelican with Mr. Clean and Little Alfred. I think the last name is correct. Spent many Saturday night dancing to this wonder man's voice. My friend L.H. knew all the gang at the Pelican. I was just the weird friend. What amazing memories. We still love you Charles. No one sings this song better.
