New Update: Due to recent video posted by u22utoo (posted on July 08, 2012), the title has been updated, and the debate fully settled as far as I am concerned.

u22utoo's video can be found here: http://youtu.be/dUoDLseP3Ms (is also the only video response to this video)

This is not as nice of a performance IMHO, but there are key notes that are "exactly" the same and essentially give validity to the claim a specific artist, as newly titled.

PLEASE DO NOT HARASS USERS OVER OLD COMMENTS, I WILL DELETE YOUR COMMENTS. There are posts here that are ~4 years old, and this was well debated due to the lack of REAL EVIDENCE.

UPDATE New version of this video in full 1080p is up at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4IoRgLzY3Q

Much better quality, go watch it.

I just used random pictures to make a video for this song.

If you can provide some actual evidence that proves who is singing this particular cover of this song, please comment or message me so that I may label this correctly. Or if you have any other video of a cover of this song that sounds like it is the same person.

You may post your opinion of who it is, but try not to insult anyone, because most likely your opinion is only as useful as the person (peoples) you are bashing. And I actually don't care what your opinion is, nor am I asking for it.

If you can provide some sort real proof against any artist, showing it is not them, please do so.

At this point I seriously think a lot of people who watch videos on YouTube have the poorest sound quality available to them on their computer.

Some of the names I have seen come up I can and/or have eliminate(d) myself just from common knowledge of music, or by easily differentiating between the 2 voices.

FYI: If you add &fmt=18 after the video ID number in the address bar, the sound quality will be a bit better, maybe that will help some of you.

Update: If you post a comment saying you found the concert video on a Google search, or anything like that, and you fail to provide me with a link to it, or even a response to me when I request it, I WILL remove your comment, don't claim you have evidence then hide like a little bitch when you're asked to provide it.

Everyone arguing over whether this Jewel or Chantal Kreviazuk clearly hasn't listened to either artist very much. This is Chantal Kreviazuk. Please listen to any live performance of Chantal's on Youtube if you need proof. Here's one example: Chantal Kreviazuk- "Surrounded" (Live).

If you are new to this video I highly suggest reading the video description, as it has been updated a few times over the last 4 years. xKillerClownx 3 months ago

lol...lotta contention over who actually did this version. Is there an answer yet? Because I am in love with this version, like...seriously in love. Her voice, emotion, interpretation of/in this song is astonishing!

No, dumbass.

Many other sources? It's obvious in 4 years nothing has been supplied to this argument besides opinions, outside of someone saying they were there, but that is [generally] something they can't prove. My comment was in reply to your comment, if you stated the "pretty weak.." to that user, then I wouldn't have cared, your response was entirely about 'their voices' & this brand new video (or what seems to be a recent discovery of old material), as if were past tense information.

There are many other sources, this one was the most definitive. Actual proof other than "I was at xxxx show and she played the song. Pretty weak for someone to make categorical statements like 'she never sang this song' and 'she never did this song', as you put it, "FFS".

That video was just posted 4 days ago, smartass, that comment you replied to was ~1 year old. This debate was JUST settled with that videos' posting, it was posted specifically in response to this video, FFS.

Ummmm, no. Have you ever heard Chantal speak? And Jewel speak? The speaking sounds nothing like Jewel. And yes, she used to cover this song live at shows. In fact, search YouTube for 'Wild Horses Chantal Kreviazuk' posted by u22utoo. You can clearly hear her joke (at 0'30") about the audience 'not being able to handle two Chantal shows in one day.'

"lol". This thing has bothered me for years. I have never believed it was Jewel but God da#$!T, wanted to know for sure. Think I can finally sleep tonight ;-).

Actually, let me "adjust" my comment, lol. I agree that is proof, pretty solidly, by the first time she sings "wild horses couldn't drag me..." in both performances. But the version I have up I thought was from around the same time (1996-1998'ish), but the 1998 performance sounds a bit more unpracticed.

youtu.be/dUoDLseP3Ms. Chantal singing the same song with the same piano arrangement. Track 12 of a full performance from 1998. It is NOT the same performance as this video, but clearly the same singer. Go listen and you be the judge. See more info at my link. For me, this is settled.

Yeah yeah, and the earth was flat for many centuries... Still no real proof, will still remain labelled this way. I've had this track a while too, like most everyone else, since the mid 90's, in the original form it started circulating. Too many people can't seem to distinguish fact from opinion.

Oh yeah wait, here she's talking at the beginning too. You don't have to look far, in her other live videos, she talks in the same manner as she does here. No biggie, really. ;)

OMG this is still a debate? It IS Chantal Kreviazuk. It IS her. I had this awhile back, and the file that I had even had Chantal talking before she started singing. You guys, lol. This is Chantal Kreviazuk. It should be 200% sure by now.

@exfactor003 The sad part is I've had this video up for 4 years, and I have 2 versions of it up, and yet there is no real evidence anywhere that can legitimately say which artist it is. I was hopeful earlier on in this videos life, but I've all but given up at this point. I would really love to say who this is, for fact, but all I can do is state my opinion, which has leaned towards Chantal over the last couple years.

listen to the little yodel thing @ the end of, 'bitter,' @ 3:00. I own three Jewel albums, and I have never heard her do that at the end of such a note. I own all five of Chantal's albums, and I've heard her do that dozens of times. and if anyone were to look up any of Chantal's interviews, you'd be able to tell that she is speaking at the beginning. I've also seen her perform this song twice and two separate concerts in Edmonton, Canada, two years apart. it's Chantal, that's a fact.

exfactor003

@mariananbc then how do you explain that I have seen Chantal perform this song twice in at two separate concerts, two years apart? my guess is that you're not even familiar with her.

UberWarriorGirl

This is definitely Chantal Kreviazuk! I've been listening to her music for over 10 years and this is definitely her voice. Jewel has a much softer voice. I don't know if Jewel plays the piano (I know she plays guitar) but Chantal plays the piano. It's her thing.

@Perniciousdeeds Actually, I sent both artists Facebook pages, known emails, twitters, myspaces, and everywhere else I could think of, messages asking about this audio recording. So yes, imbecile, I have asked. Go attempt genius somewhere else because it isn't working for you here.
