Can beonyce sing? I would not ask that question if she could. Put her on stage with chaka and she will have to take the mic from bee like she did all the rest of them girls they dont have that old school natural talent . If you are not the best yourself, you would argue something else like being at best 50 even listning to beonyce.

Let's be clearer than that. If your idea of entertainment is how much she dances around on stage; or you have a preference to her looks, Beyonce wins. Once she opens her mouth ...., she doesn't have a chance in HELL of being as good as a singer as Chaka Khan: much less being better. Power, intonation, range, repertoire, just playing holding a note. Let's not be stupid and even compare them as singers. That's like comparing a Lexus versus a Rolls Royce...

I can't even agree with you all the way here. Beyonce has not paid her diva dues. She patterns her dancing and costuming after Tina Turner. She is a decent singer but it took a lot of work for her to come this far. I respect her but she cannot compare to Chaka or any of the real divas of soul. She is not an original talent and I doubt we will ever hear her try to cover any of Chaka's songs or costuming. Chaka was off the chain in her Leather and Feathers phase. B cannot touch that!

i agree, readmore. you didn't disparage, bey. you merely stated the truth - she is a fabulous entertainer and a beautiful woman. but as a singer, she is not even close to the caliber of chaka. there IS no comparison.

No lip syncing,fancy choreography to cover up the lack of vocal ability and musicianship...just singing and playing instruments. (Not talking about Beyonce; she's a great performer, but she's not in the same category of vocal style as many 70s singers.)I saw Rufus and Chaka back in 1975, and girlfriend was strutting around in those mile high platforms and wailing away. I'll never forget it.

It is also worth mentioning the Tony Maiden her guitar player was also a great vocalist and provided a strong harmony with the original Rufus. I really wish they would do a reunion tour. I agree, Chaka is the real deal and lead the way for others like Beyonce.
